The Reckoner is the award-winning student newspaper of Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. During the school year, The Reckoner publishes regularly on its website. Additionally, The Reckoner produces a monthly printed newspaper, which is distributed to the school community.

The organization is comprised entirely of dedicated student volunteers: the best writers, artists, photographers, designers, and developers of the school. In 2012, the organization was named Ontario’s Best High School Electronic Newspaper by the Toronto Star.

Kasra was an editor at The Reckoner. He likes basketball and rap. He also likes talking and writing and expressing his thoughts. He talks to himself a lot in his head. He's kind of funny. He's also sociable but in another way shy and awkward and quiet. He doesn't really like science, but that's funny because he's in TOPS. He mainly likes the social sciences and the humanities. He also likes some forms of art. Movies, books, music... maybe even some visual art. He's very organized and he's a bit of a nerd too. He likes math, which isn't funny because he's in TOPS. That's it.

Alie Teachman was the Editorial Manager at The Reckoner. She made her entrance into the world pink, screaming, and knowing that all she wanted in life was a puppy. Thus she spent the first ten years of her existence: petitioning her parents and bombarding them with low quality PowerPoints. It was only once she had attained a dog of her very own that she began to develop other interests. She started to play instruments and sports. She learned how to play hide and seek, and how to climb trees. All in all, she had your average childhood.

Jackie Ho was the Media Manager at The Reckoner. Aside from taking pretty pictures, she spends her spare time socializing, trying to do homework (keyword: try), teaching math, listening to music, and eating chocolate chip cookies. She can usually be found riding the TTC, at the Toronto Zoo, at a dance class, in front of her laptop, or curled up on her bed with a book and her phone. One day, Jackie hopes to travel the world (especially Europe) and work in conservation or medicine.

Lily Song was a senior writer and photographer at The Reckoner. Despite being in a math-science program, she immensely enjoys humanities and the arts. She hopes to read more interesting books, eat more delicious foods, and learn more about the world in general. She aspires to be a better writer in particular.

Quincy Lam was the Director of Web Development at The Reckoner. He likes jazz, language, and introspection. Though his expression is habitually dark, he enjoys talking. Quincy doesn't get much exercise, but he enjoys brisk hikes. He wishes that his voice were deeper, so he could better imitate the speech of villains. As someone interested in language, his word choice can be artificial--he prefers whilst to while and forwards to forward because he likes the suffixes. In the future, Quincy hopes to research East Asian linguistics.

Sabrina Bertsch was the Deputy Editor in Chief and News Manager of The Reckoner.  She collects hotel room keys, hates when people wear stripes and plaid, and loves her cats more than anything but really wishes she had a dog. Her current dream job is being a photojournalist but she would settle for television critic or working in PR. When she’s not busy with Reach for the Top, Key Club, or Film Club she chooses to travel the world with her Nikon at her side. By the time she's 30, Sabrina hopes to have visited all the continents (including Antarctica).

Vasili Manikas was the Life Manager of the The Reckoner. He was also the president of Film Club and a member of Improv Club. In his free time, Vasili likes to read and watch a lot of movies.

Susie Liu was the Director of Print at The Reckoner. Her future goal is to be a camerawoman for a BBC nature programme or to be a creative director. Susie likes comedy, rooftops, and movies, and she recommends Carmina or Blow Up and Oishii Man. Her special talents are drawing left-facing human profiles, and criticizing.
