Last week, from 30 May – 3 June, MGCI hosted Spirit Week. Featuring alliterative themes from Monday through Friday, the event had students come to school dressed according to the day’s theme. These themes included Mickey Mouse (Disney) Monday, Twin Tuesday, Comic Con Wednesday, Throwback Thursday, and Fan Friday. Throughout the week, students wore clothing from their favourite Disney movies, matched clothes with their friends, expressed their fandoms, and more.

“Spirit Week is something everyone at Garneau enjoys. It gives students a chance to let loose and have some fun! Especially with summatives and exams coming up.” said current Spirit Convenor Arani Kulamurugan.
SAC members photographed students dressed up throughout the week. One participant, Abirami Sivakanthan, grade 9, said “Spirit Week was amazing and the new themes were very creative, Disney Monday being my favourite. A huge shoutout to the Spirit Convenor and the entirety of SAC for putting together an amazing Spirit Week!”

Arani and the SAC grade representatives advertised this event with daily Facebook posts and announcements. Many students enjoyed the variety of themes Spirit Week offered, and found many of the themes were easy to dress up to.
The MGCI Spirit Committee is now working on a final spirit day event at the end of the month; the Spirit Convenor predicts there may be a dunk tank involved.
Sounds fun! You should include a slideshow next time. Keep up the good work!
