On 17 November 2017, the DECA Toronto Regionals competition was held at Cedarbrae CI. This year, over 1700 registered high school students from the TDSB, TCDSB, and Toronto French Schools competed in the annual business competition. The top scoring individuals from the regionals competition earned a spot to compete at the DECA Ontario Provincials competition, which will be held in February of 2018.

Marc Garneau students participated in three different categories of events throughout the day: Individual Series, Principles of Business Administration, and Team Decision Making. Each event was comprised of two parts, an online multiple choice exam and a role play case study. The final rankings were calculated from the total scores from both evaluations.
MGCI DECA members attended multiple meetings and training sessions prior to the competition. Building on last year’s successful training programs, this year’s MGCI DECA chapter began training in October and gave members early access to study material.

Brianna Gopaul, a Grade 9 student who placed third in the Principles of Business Management and Administration category, commented that “all the students were really passionate and excited about DECA, and wanted to achieve excellent results.” Brianna attributed her success to training provided by the MGCI DECA chapter: “While I worked very hard, I wouldn’t have been able to make it to provincials without the constant help and guidance of all of the DECA executives.”
Final rankings and results students that qualified for the DECA Provincials competition in February have since been released with a total of sixty-one students. MGCI DECA President Meagan Wan commented on the success of this year’s chapter at regionals: “I’m really proud of how we did today. I know a lot of students put so much time and effort for today and I think it really paid off. I’m excited for provincials and to see where we go from here.”
