Marc Garneau Key Club members attended the Eastern Canada District Convention in Ottawa, Ontario.

20 members of MGCI Key Club visited Ottawa this weekend for the 66th Eastern Canada District Convention for three days of board elections and networking. Grade 11 student Simon Huang was appointed District Webmaster and Kerui Yao, current District Secretary Treasurer, has become ELIMINATE chair. This year, Yao will help coordinate the charity “ELIMINATE” which is trying to eliminate maternal neonatal tetanus. In addition, spent time participating in workshops and contests. These workshops aim to educate members about Key Club’s current causes or offer insight about improving club meetings with new icebreakers and lessons in time management. Key Club at Marc Garneau has been named a “Platinum Level” club. Among others, commendable results include first place in the essay contest, second place in oratorical speech, club video, and talent show, and third place scrapbook and poster.

“Key Club gives the opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, make friends, and give back to the community. It is a place where students take the lead and lead to serve. Of course, we have our staff advisors, as well as Kiwanis advisors to thank for overseeing our events, but at the end of the day, it is the students who set the ball rolling and put everything to action. It is the students who lead,” says MGCI Key Club President Jacqueline Sue. “This year, I met [many members] from Quebec, P.E.I., and Newfoundland. Despite us all being from different parts of the country, Key Club is what allowed us to come together through the art of service.”
