I never knew
so many shades of grey existed in the world
The ground, the sky, all grey; the soldiers too
Either side
Nowhere to hide it seems
From this dismal epidemic
The grass was once a greenish hue
Before the rain washed it away
The sky was blue
But so many spirits flew
To go wherever they go
It must have mourned them too
My blood was red
Deep red
I saw it run one day
Like so many men
It ran off my arm
It hit the ground
And it too turned grey
I looked into a mirror the other day
For the first time in a while
And a man I knew looked back at me
But slightly different did he seem
I could have sworn
His eyes were blue
Sometime before today
But now those aching eyes that stared
Were coloured shades of grey
