Garneau turned off its lights on Friday 28 March in celebration of World Wildlife Fund’s annual Earth Hour event. Since starting in 2008, Toronto’s participation in the event has declined. This year, Toronto Hydro noted only a 6% (178 MW) drop in power usage between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm on Saturday. The greatest decrease occurred in 2009, with a 15% (445 MW) drop.
