Every year, the Toronto Star acknowledges the work produced by outstanding high school newspapers through the High School Newspaper Awards (HSNA). The awards are sectioned into 21 distinct categories ranging from classical writing styles including reporting and opinion writing, to more liberal and light-hearted sections, such as illustration and humour. More information can be found here.

During the Second Guard, the High School Newspaper Awards were unfortunately cancelled due to the teacher strikes at the time. As a result, no newspaper in Ontario was eligible for awards.
In 2017, staff from The Reckoner won 15 awards in 12 different categories.
