Every year, the Toronto Star acknowledges the work produced by outstanding high school newspapers though the High School Newspaper Awards (HSNA). The awards are sectioned into 21 distinct categories ranging from classical writing styles including reporting and opinion writing, to more liberal and light-hearted sections, such as illustration and humour.
Throughout the last three guards, The Reckoner has been honoured with titles that include “Best Volunteer Newspaper”, “Best Electronic Newspaper”, and First Place in “Electronic Newspaper, Layout and Design”. In 2016, members from The Reckoner won 11 awards in 11 different categories. More information can be found here.

During the Second Guard, the High School Newspaper Awards were unfortunately cancelled due to the teacher strikes at the time. As a result, no newspaper in Ontario was eligible for awards.
