Parnika Godkhindi

Editor in Chief

A busy bee is a happy bee. At least, that’s Parnika’s motto--she enjoys doing a lot of things so her schedule’s always packed. She has no clue what she wants to do in life, but for now, she’s content with being the Editor in Chief for The Reckoner. Her other interests include listening to music, reminiscing in old Disney movies, travelling, and reading. When she isn't polishing her Air Cadet boots, or frantically scribbling down tasks on her ever-expanding to-do list, she can be found sitting by her bedroom window, hoping Peter Pan will fly her away to Neverland.

Deputy Editor In Chief, News Manager

Cheng Cheng Lin is the Deputy Editor In Chief and News Manager at the Reckoner. With a fine taste in television shows and books, Cheng Cheng is usually streaming the newest episodes of “Suits” and “The X Company”, or engulfing the new-book smell from her paperback. Apart from enjoying products of human imagination, she also figure skates, and plays soccer. Cheng Cheng lives on the morale that procrastination is a fatal flaw. She always works with diligence to get the job done. Unless there’s a new season of “Sherlock.” Then, it can wait.

Lauren Chang is Charmaine Chang's sister. Charmaine is, in general, the sensitive sister. Charmaine Chang is an avid lover of jigsaw puzzles, puns, trivia, and all kinds of music. She’s not one to shy away from people she’s never met. She’s competitive, but only in the things she sucks at, which is ironic, but very true. She’s a hopeless romantic, and though she refuses to admit it, crappy romance books are right up her alley. Charmaine strives to expand her knowledge of...well, everything and hopes that one day, she will finally be as knowledgeable as her father.

Amy Chen

Amy Chen is a Life Writer for The Reckoner. She enjoys reading novels and watching movies where she is immersed in a world that is not her own. She has a love-hate relationship with cliffhangers and with sad endings. She is a lover of art and the beauty found in even the most commonplace activities. In the meantime, she’s content with travelling and exploring the world while eating delicious delicacies from each culture.

Amy Chen is a Life Board writer for the Reckoner. You can usually find her laughing obnoxiously at her own terrible jokes, or curled up in a quiet corner with a good book. Every time she wakes up in the morning, she grapples for any memory of her dreams and thus spends an unhealthy amount of time trying to analyse them. An unfortunate combination of a perfectionist and a procrastinator, she possesses an alarmingly loud laugh and far too many stacks of piano books. She is a friendly soul, but will not hesitate to use violence if you insult Harry Potter or any of her favourite books. In her spare time, Angela can be found singing off-key Adele songs, dancing around her room, and enjoying cheesy puns. She is usually in the school library perusing through the fiction section, listening to punk rock through her earbuds, or freaking out about the latest season of a TV show. Anjing is passionate about her hobbies; examples being the violin, swimming, and writing. She also spends an absurd amount of time watching anime instead of working, and is an avid procrastinator. When he isn't busy with homework, playing badminton, or surfing the web, he can be found watching old movies and TV shows he should have definitely seen a long time ago but never did. Perhaps for a safer and less painfully drawn-out narrative, try consulting her backpack: the practical residence for her humungous keychain collection. Lauren has never cried at school. Lauren wishes that people would not send her articles that she has previously written for the Reckoner, because that was a different time and she was a different person. A lover of wordplay, she’ll say any pun that comes to mind, due to her unfortunate lack of a brain-to-mouth filter. She plays way too many instruments and fancies herself a music nerd (Beethoven? Well, actually, he can't be sure, since he hasn't deeply delved into these topics as of yet. But if he hasn't delved into these fields yet, then he can't say that he enjoys them, can he? She lives for her everyday adventures, surprises, and excitement. She hopes to someday be a posh French lady sitting in a posh French café reading a posh French book eating posh French chocolate. In Paris, obviously. It probably won’t happen, but a girl can dream.

Molly Yu

Molly Yu is a member of the outreach board at The Reckoner. She has a big heart and an undying love for little felines. The vast majority of her life is spent doing three things: sleep, school, and (synchronized) swimming. During the little free time that she has, she enjoys drawing, playing piano, and re-watching her favourite YouTube videos. Sometimes, she seems to have a cold demeanour, but she's actually just a tad bit awkward. You'll often see her going crazy with her friends and traversing the hallways with her large bottles. Which are for synchro by the way.

Nelson Lee

Nelson Lee is an Outreach board member at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute. He has a distinct habit of keeping things organized and on tasks. When not keeping things in place and order, Nelson likes to read, his favourite book is: “All the light we Cannot see”. Other than reading well-written novels, he likes to talk to people and hopefully the latest Magic the Gathering cards he bought went up in value. Nelson Lee never procrastinates and always likes doing things early so he can reward himself with free time. He’s always diligent to get the work done.

Rafiq Habib

Rafiq is a human who can have very strong (dare he say “interesting”) opinions. Maybe they all come from the President’s Choice chocolate chip granola bar he eats religiously at 10:30 am every day. Does it control him? No one knows. But everyone knows chocolate makes him happy. Perhaps if you disagree with Rafiq’s ideas you could slip him a piece of chocolate or two. Perhaps it would change something (but probably not). Either way, you should give him chocolate when you see him. Nothing good comes from an unappeased writer and a newspaper, after all.

Rahim Dhalla

Rahim Dhalla is a writer for the life board at The Reckoner. Fascinated by different cultures and ways of life, Rahim loves to travel and learn languages. His hobbies/interests include playing guitar, reading, running, and eating Oreos. He has numerously been criticized with the overuse of “litt” but still says it whenever the opportunity presents itself. Rahim also really likes food. If he’s not eating something, he’s probably telling someone how litt something is.

Raluca Gondor

Raluca Gondor is an Outreach Board member. An avid traveller, she enjoys visiting new places and experiencing wacky things. Raluca's friendly, but you may want to steer clear while she’s eating. She’s an adrenaline junkie and can be found doing crazy things that usually result in her getting injured. One day, she hopes to go skydiving and backpacking along the Inca Trail. Her hobbies include bingeing shows, lip syncing, and doing things ironically until they’re no longer ironic. If you feed her, you automatically become her friend and will be subjected to her awful puns. She’s Gon(e)dor.

Roger Fu

Roger Fu is part of the Web Development Board at the Reckoner. At school, he normally has a laptop open and is <del>trolling</del> coding on it. When he’s not scrambling to finish his homework, he can be seen on Slack, adding problems to DMOJ, writing scripts for dubious purposes, or explaining why coffee is the elixir of life.

Roger Li

Roger Li creates art for the Life Board. He enjoys reading, listening to music, drawing, and watching movies. He also likes to write, compose, and draw, though you should be wary of the results. Roger has many projects on the go and all he wants is to finally finish his stories, songs, and sketches. Roger does some amounts of math, but will do his best to avoid it. That is why he has cleverly committed his math time and portions of his other time towards doodling for The Reckoner instead of finishing those creative ventures.

Ruknoon Dinder

4 things matter most in Ruknoon’s life- Model UN, sleep, food and soccer (Arsenal and Toronto FC for life). A dedicated lover of hard rock and metal, he loves giving huge speeches about how great the genre is. He will watch any movie, TV show, read any book he finds as long as he finds it interesting for 5 minutes. He’s very shy of people but makes friends easily once he gets to know you. He has an unhealthy obsession with Russian Federation so don't go around speaking ill about Putin when he’s around unless you want to debate him.

Russell Ijaya

Russell Ijaya is a photographer and print developer at the Reckoner. What are you going to with your life? Ask him and you’re guaranteed a response full of ambiguity. He’s putting that question off for now, but that doesn’t mean he’s a procrastinator. Word on the street is that he’s pretty “artsy”, one of the vaguest descriptions that could ever be given. Through his rather small lens, he hopes to inspire others to search for what they haven’t seen. He is recognized by his absurdly long hair… you can think what you want about it.

Ryan Lin

Ryan Lin is a Toronto Star High School Newspaper Award-winning reporter and senior News Board writer for The Reckoner. For him, the only thing better than reporting on new things is actually doing them. He is much like an electron in that, at any given moment in time, you might find him: hustling around the diamond, freezing on curling ice, pretending to be good at the violin, silently cursing his CAD software, checking Tesla stocks, reading the latest Supreme Court ruling or wondering what new experiences the future may hold. Maybe all of these things. Maybe none.

Sheri has a deep interest in the health sciences and learning new things. Amidst her busy schedule, Sheri is a perfectionist, but in her free time, she loves jamming to her favorite Korean songs.

Tazik Shahjahan

Tazik Shahjahan is a tenner with a penchant for complaining. Though labelled a tryhard by many, Tazik is the farthest thing from keen. Tazik is NOT a member of the Life Board at the Reckoner, but not for a lack of trying. He hates talking about the past, unless the discussion is centered on which cousin started it back in 2006. When he is not busy turning off lights, Tazik can be found looking up the roots of random words, frantically scribbling his ideas on whatever happens to be nearby, or just complaining about his most recent marks.

Tom Liu is a news writer at The Reckoner. He spends his free time reading, gaming, and is always looking for an adventure. He also enjoys playing sports such as badminton, basketball and soccer. Usually, Tom is lazy and pretty laid back, but he somehow manages to always get things done. Failure is not an option for him. Tom knows about all the news going on around the school, however, just don’t ask him about his life. He has no clue about what he is doing.

Varun Venkataramanan

Varun Venkataramanan is a news writer and web & app developer at The Reckoner. He is a grade 11 student who loves going on runs as long as his last name. A big music fan, he likes to pretend he is the frontman of the Grammy winning band Varoon 5. Although spring is his favourite season, it normally involves him crying over the Washington Capitals' latest playoff failure or Derrick Rose's next knee injury. Other than that, Varun can usually be found curled up with a book, coding out a new project, or playing with his luscious locks.

Vivian Ly

Vivian is a member of the Outreach Board. In her free time, she enjoys acrobatics and reading. While some say she doesn't look like it, she loves listening to rock, alternative, and punk music, though she dabbles in all genres. She is a die-hard member of many different fandoms and you could probably call her a total geek for many things. Her love for TV and books give her pain when conflicting with the need to study and do work but she strives to do her best.

Zain Rashid

Zain is a grade 12 student and part of the Editorial and Outreach Board at The Reckoner. He absolutely loves sports; basically all of them except golf (Is it even a sport?). In his spare time, he likes to play FIFA and chess, or write stories with his sisters. He is also a passionate poet; his poems can range from critical political analysis to his fantasy “kingdoms” for his fantasy stories. He’s also the President of The Business Society of MGCI. Living in Toronto reminds him of his childhood where he spent his days strolling in beautiful and quiet farmlands.
